u Sentence was
not an English word.
u It comes
originally form Latin language and it was called “Sentire” or
“Sententia” which means Feel, Be of the Opinion or someones Opinion.
u With the
passage of time the word “Sentence” entered in the Old French language
by the same name of “Sentire” or “Sententia”.
u Later on it
becomes the part of Old English. And from there this word has got a position
in the English language.
Simple and Exact Definition of a Sentence
A group of words which gives us a
complete sense or meaning is called a
“Sentence”.
It begins with a capital letter
and ends on a punctuation mark. (.!?)

Parts
of a Sentence
Every
complete sentence contains two parts: a subject and
a predicate. The subject is what (or
whom) the sentence is about, while the predicate tells
something about the subject. A Predicate consists of verb & object.
What
is a predicate?
The word or
the group of the words which say something about a subject is called predicate.
Example: He plays cricket. (He = subject)
& (plays & cricket = predicate)

There
are four kinds of a Sentence.
Simple
Sentence: It
consists of only one independent clause.
Example: He plays cricket. She cooks food.
Compound
Sentence: It
consists of at least two independent clauses.
Example: I am reading a book but my friend
is writing his homework.
Complex
Sentence: It
consists of one independent clause and at least one dependent clause.
Example: This is the place where I used to
play cricket.
Complex
Compound Sentence: It consists of at least two independent and one or more dependent
clause.
Example: He called me and I replied when I
was near his house.
