Direct and Indirect Speech: Introduction

1.   Introduction

Change of Person

Change of Tense

Change of Tense
1.     Is, Am, Are …………Change into …………………..Was, Were
2.     Was, Were…………Change into……………………had been
3.     Had been/ had………………………No Change
4.     Do, Does………………Change into……………………..Did
5.     Has, have…………….Change into……………Had
6.     Can……………………………..Change into……………could
7.     May…………………………….Change into……….might
8.     Will, shall……………….Change into………would
9.     Should, must………………..change into………..should have v3, must have v3
10.Present indefinite Tense………………….Change into………………..Past Indefinite Tense
11.                        Present continuous Tense………..change into………………Past Continuous Tense
12.Present Perfect Tense…………change into……………………past perfect tense
13.Present Perfect Continuous…………change into…………….past perfect continuous tense
14.Past indefinite tense………….change into…………Past Perfect tense
15.Past perfect ………..change into………….. past perfect continuous tense
16.Past perfect………………..No change
17.Past perfect continuous………………. Nochange

Change of Time and Place Adverbs
  • it, this ......change into.... that
  • These.......... change into.......... those
  • Ago........... change into......... before
  • Thus.............. change into........ so
  • now............. into.................. then
  • hence........... into............... thence
  • today............ into.............. that day
  • last night....... into.............. previous night
  • next day........ into.............. following day
  • yesterday....... into.............. previous day
  • Tonight.......... into.............. That night

1st Person: I, My, We, Our, Us……….Change into……………Subject
2nd Person: You, Your, You…………………Change into……………Object
3rd Person: He, His, Him, She, Her, They, Their, Them……………No Change

            S     O   N

پھرChange of Tense اور Change of Personکے اصولوں کے مطابق فقرہIndirect کریں۔

He Said to me, “I am with you.”
He told me that he was with me.

He said to him, “I can solve your problem.”
He told him that he can solve his problem.

I said to him, “Your father is waiting for you.”
I told him that his father was waiting for him.”
